Hello Fern Families!
I am so excited to share wonderful news! As you may recall, last year our staff achevied the status of becoming a Marzano Level 1 High Reliability School. Our focus was safe school culture, day to day operations and teacher professional learning communities (PLC's). Each grade level meets 2x/week to discuss student data, instruction and how to support needs of all students.
We continued our focus this year for Level 2 and we are beyond proud to announce that we were certified as a Marzano Level 2 High Reliability School!
Our focus included the following six areas, and we gathered evidence of ongoing teacher professional learning and instructional rounds. Instructional rounds involved teachers planning a lesson, observing their grade level colleagues teach, providing feedback on the lesson and immediately implement changes to improve the lesson when the next teacher taught it (usually within 30 minutes).
We have completed this process three times this year, and it was hugely successful for our teaching staff to have/implement immediate colleague feedback.
Coupled with our Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathways, our teachers were able to focus on our STEM journey via inquiry based teaching and learning. It was a perfect marriage of content and instruction - all to the benefit of YOUR FALCONS!!!
Areas of focus were:
2.1 The school leader communicates a clear vision of how instruction should be addressed in the school.
2.2 Support is provided to teachers to continually enhance their pedagogical skills through reflection and professional growth plans.
2.3 Predominant instructional practices throughout the school are known and monitored.
2.4 Teachers are provided with clear, ongoing feedback on their pedagogical strengths and weaknesses that are based on multiple sources of data and are consistent with student achievement data.
2.5 Teachers are provided with job embedded professional development that is directly related to their instructional growth goals.
2.6 Teachers have opportunities to observe and discuss effective teaching.
We were required to provide lagging indicators - or evidence - of how we did this all year long. It was a very long, rewarding process and we are happy to share this information with our families.
We are currently the only school in FSD with this distinction (there is one other up for certification) along with only one of six schools in Orange County selected to participate in the Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway.
CELEBRATE OUR SUCCESS!
